“Back New Zealand"

Sir, — It is encouraging to read a suggestion such as that put forward by Mr Ireland (“The Press,” June 14) calling upon New Zealanders to adopt an attitude of pride and patriotism in their coun- . try and I trust that the council of the Technical Institute will have the foresight to put aside their misgivings as the Technical Institute can only benefit from taking the lead and using this occasion to convey to the community and particularly young school leavers the tertiary opportunities the institute has to offer. Rather than seeing the camp a i g n through Mr McCready’s eyes as an attempt to move mountains, I see it as sowing seeds and what better way to do this than by our educational institutions stimulating an attitude of personal pride and ambition in our young which will surely develop into an attitude, not of criticism and

apathy, but of realism and national pride. — Yours, etc., M. S. BULL. June 14, 1979.
