Pledge on bicycles
PA Wellington Hard-pressed New Zealand bicycle manufacturers had given an assurance they would be able to catch up on back orders over the r«'xt few months and meet increased demand, said the Under-Secretary of Trade and Industry (Mr Allen) in Parliament yesterday. He replied to Mr G. W. F. Thompson (National, Horowhenua) who had. asked if local manufacturers could
meet the increased demand for bicycles and. if not, whether more would be imported.
Mr Allen said that manufacturers were hard-pressed but had given an assurance they were increasing production. “It is not proposed to issue additional licences to increase imports in the meantime, but officials from my department are keeping the position under review,” Mr Allen said.
