Imposing chance in Stradbroke
NZPA Brisbane A three-year-old Todman colt already earmarked for stud duties in New Zealand could upset more fancied runners in- today’s $102,000 Stradbroke Handicap (1400 metres) at Eagle Farm. Imposing, trained by Tommy Smith and to be riaden by Peter Cook, is rated a 10 to 1 chance in today’s markets and has impressed in his trackwork this week. He is half-owned by New Zealand interests. Imposing finished well back in the 1600 m Doncaster Handicap at Randwick at Easter after being well placed on the turn, but has since recorded two good wins over 1200 m and 1400 m among welter company and rates as one of the better light-weight chances today. Smith’s top jockey, Malcolm Johnston, who will be on the 9-to-2 favourite, Joyita, today, rode both horses in their final track gallops and was reported to have been very impressed by Imposing. The New Zealand-bred Joyita (Alvaro —Assessment) has done nothing wrong in her preparation, however, and is expected to maintain her favouritism ahead of inform Stylee, which will be seeking her fourth successive win.
