Owner declines to put price on Windvale Beau

By

J. J. BOYLE

Mr Cecil Stewart, ownertrainer of the talented Windvale Beau, has declined to put a price on his three-year-old. “I don’t plan to quit him —not in the meantime anyway,” Mr Stewart said last night. Mr Stewart has Windvale Beau in the second leg of the Oamaru T.A.B. double today, and it will be one of the surprises of the day if the Beaufort Sea gelding’s winning sequence ends. Windvale Beau has won his last three races.

Mr Stewart has some happy memories of winter campaigns at Trentham with Windvale Lad, but he will not have his latest star there for this year’s Wellington winter meeting. "That mud at Trentham can really drag it out of them and I wouldn't like to take a young horse there,” Mr Stewart said. There is no suitable class 3 race at the Ashburton meeting, and after today’s race Windvale Beau will be pointed for the South Canterbury winter meeting. Mr Stewart has Windvale Beau’s older half-sister, the

four-year-old Windvale Toi, engaged in the first leg of today’s T.A.B. double. He is more hopeful than optimistic. “She might be scratching a bit in that field,” he said last night. Windvale, an eight-year-old half-brother of Windvale Toi and Windvale Beau, is also in the first leg of the Oamaru double, but he will be racing in the colours of the Wingatui trainer, Stan McKay. McKay, a dab hand with jumpers, believes Windvale is likely material, and recently leased the Mellay gelding from Mr Stewart.
