Smart young pacers to meet at Nelson today
By
G. K. YULE
The meeting between Miss Coquette. Individualist and several other capable three and four-year olds in the Norwich Handicap will be one of the highlights of the first day of the Nelson Trotting Club’s winter meeting at Richmond Park today.
Miss Coquette, a place getter in the New Zealanc Oaks in April, was a very easy winner over a field ol Cl mares at Rangiora last Saturday, pacing the 2600rr almost three seconds fastei than Individualist earlier in the day when the track was probably slower. Today Miss Coquette has to give Individualist a start of 10m. but this should not stop the Kaikoura-owned filly from winning again. There was much to enthuse over about the narrow win of Individualist last Saturday as she was forced wide from the start, and at no stage was she near the rails. She fought on most determinedly and will only have to begin safely to make Miss Coquette work hard for f victory. She looks to have much potential.
I Okere, too, was a graduate 11 from maiden company at 'Rangiora last week. She lost much ground at the start and put in a strong run to 11 be handy in the open from 'the 1500 m. She fought on i gamely in the straight for her success. She must be a itop chance in this field. Andrea Scott showed her true ability at Ashburton on I June 4 when she made the I pace and held on for second i behind Joe Marsh. At times she has shown much promise, but she has not always (been too consistent. A bold I run from her will not surprise. I Boltin, Gentle Jen and Last Chance, all of which I claim other engagements during the day. share the | back mark of 20m. All have raced quite well lately and
all of them could add interest to the finish. However, they will need luck to catch Miss Coquette and Individualist.
