Sir, — Labour’s 1973 Budget acknowledged that the outgoing National Government left the economy in one of its strongest positions ever, but Labour, with its reckless spending, crippling taxation, and diminishing exports quickly turned a S2OBM National overseas exchange surplus into a S9BSM Labour deficit, and everyone suffered. Last financial year, National turned a $394M Labour trade deficit into a S66OM National surplus, despite a sevenfold increase in the price of oil. An in-credit bank account means prosperous people. An overdrawn bank account means deprived people. The facts are clear for all to see. Labour is bad news for wage earners. Facts are readily available from official sources, perhaps they do not suit M. T. Moore’s arguments. — Yours, etc., JILL LOWE. June 13, 1979.
