Wildlife not harmed
This week’s pollution of the Heathcote River had had no apparent effect on wildlife, said the Christchurch Drainage Board’s chief engineer (Mr P. J. McWilliam) yesterday. Three separate minor incidents all involving oil products, contributed to the pollution. A big vehicle washing-down area was the source in one case, and the other discharges were caused by overloading of oilinterception traps. Mr McWilliam said the oil film had been too thin to try to contain.
