Blue Image could improve

Special Correspondent Hastings Blue Image suggested he is ready for an improved effort in Saturday’s City Handicap at Awapuni by turning in a smart workout at Hastings yesterday morning. Fast work was done on the course proper, No. 1 grass and the plough. Overnight rain left the tracks soft. Blue Image had his trainer, Mike Donoghue, up and was sent two 600 m sprints on the plough. He was partnered by a stablemate, San Marie, and recorded 39.3 s for the first and 36.7 s for the second. Blue Image finished the workout full of running and has obviously trained on well since racing at Awapuni last Saturday. Dasher finished clear of a stablemate, Kanazaan, after 1200 m in Imin 17.25, the 'ast 600 m in 40s. Dasher appeared to be revelling in the soft conditions and is one to vatch on a wet track. Tank ran a 1000 m in Imin 4.85, the last 800 m in 52 s ind final 600 m in 39.45. Hr is a tough little galloper. Hr will be ridden by Jimmy Cassidy in tomorrow’s City Handicap. Grand Zam was in front >f Chinkara and Tarbek ihroughout a 1000 m on the course proper in Imin 2.55. ■he last 800 m in 50.6 s and final 600 m in 38.65. This was an excellent workout md all three appear close to vinning form.
