Overseas tours
The New Zealand soccer team will undertake an eight-day, four-match tour of New Caledonia and Fiji at the end of this month. The tour will be used as a buildup to the return game with Australia in mid-August, All four matches on the tour, which was approved by the council yesterday, will be full internationals. The team will leave on June 25 and that evening will play the first of two matches against New Caledonia in Noumea, the second being played two days later. On June 29, New Zealand will play Fiji at Suva and on Ju'y 1 will play in Laut« oka. The team will return home on the fcilowing day. However plans for a tour
of Great Britain in October have been held over and a decision will not be made until the middle of next month.
Mr Dempsey, the chairman of the council's promotions comm (tee, said that five matches, three in England and one each in Scotland and Ireland, have been arranged with the possibility of others in Europe. “It may be better to leave the tour until next year to provide a better build up for the World Cup elimination games, ’ said Mr Dempsey. He added that the final decision would be made in consultation with the national team coach (Mr John Adshead).
