Unlimited council bids to grants fund urged
The Christchurch City Council should not limit the amount it might seek for council projects from a new grants fund, the council’s policy and finance committee said yesterday. A 10 per cent limit for council projects had been suggested, but councillors said that the independent committee could make up its own mind on council applications as well as those from community groups. The committee should have full authority to make its own
decisions, which would be delivered at the November council meeting. Some councillors suggested that the council should have , the right to review fund decisions, but a majority said, that giving the grants committee final authority could be changed if it did not work.
The City Council will allocate $92,500 to the common grants fund from rates, and the ' Government has said that it will contribute $1 per head of city population.
