Tick or cross 'positive’ method
PA Rotorua The tick or cross method of voting was u positive way of expressing an elector’s choice, said the Minis- ! ter of Internal Affairs (Mr Highet) yesterday. The desirability of extending the tick or cross system used in local-body elections to Parliamentary elections had been raised by the Secretary of Internal Affairs (Mr J. N. L. Searle) in submissions to the Wicks committee an the Electoral Act. “After all, it is a positive method of expressing one’s choice, not a negative one,” Mr Highet told the annual conference of the County Clerks’ Institute. Mr Searle had strongly recommended a single system of enrolment for residential. voters 'or both local and Parliamentary elections, Mr Highet said.
