Marsden B closing

Sir, — Your editorial (June 11) on Marsden B stands out as a lucid contradiction of Government action. “At the moment the country does not need the electricity and can ill afford the oil.” I heartily agree. I also agree, “that reduced demand through emigration and the slowing of economic activity” is a depressing picture of our present economic situation brought about by a National Government with an economic wizard as its leader. The stipulation economic, wizards propound that electricity prices should rise as prices of other forms of energy rise is a load of unadulterated codswallop as far as our exports are concerned, insofar as the cheaper we can produce goods for world markets, the better our return. Therefore, why penalise an already staggering economy with a 42| per cent cost surcharge before production even begins? — Yours, etc., ARTHUR MAY. June 11, 1979.
