Trainee teachers
Sir, — Is it not time trainee teachers were taken off their pedestal and paid the same amount as any other student who receives a standard tertiary bursary instead of the gross amount they now receive. If it is argued in support of this inequity that these students are bonded for a certain number of years can it not be more vehemently argued that there is no need for bonding in a profession which is going to be oversupplied. This suggestion was also put forward in the recent Planning Council reBort but criticised by the arliamentarians. However, these critics did not provide
any reasons in their reported criticisms to maintain the present situation. — Yours, etc., M. SMITH. June 9, 1979.
