Benefit cut proposed
PA Dunedin A remit calling for the unemployment benefit to be limited was passed unanimously at the National Party’s Otago-Southland divisional conference on Saturday. The remit, proposed by the St Hilda delegate, calls for the benefit to be limited to those who have already earned below the national average annual income.
It is thought that by restricting the benefit it would be paid to those who deserve it and would be in the interests of “personal enterprise, initiative, and hard work.”
