Quick change on boats
Sir, — I cannot make up my mind whether Harold Evans (May 24) is indulging in tongue-in-cheek humour or is so pro-Government as to be seriously commending Mr Muldoon for his action re the home-built boat tax. Surely your correspondent cannot ignore previous double somersaults of our most athletic Minister of Finance — $3 a barrel on/off oil, no/yes to across-the-board award for clerical workers. If Mr Muldoon is so ready, willing and able to respond to public opinion* why is it he can still be contacted on floor three of the Beehive instead of residing incommunicable among the untaxable inhabitants of Mars? —Yours, etc., ARTHUR MAY. May 24, 1979.
