Traffic lanes
Sir. — The traffic lane marking for inward travelling cars at the Bealey Avenue-Papanui Road corner has a serious fault. The left lane is marked for left-turn-ing traffic only, the right lane for straight ahead and for right-turning cars. The result is that one right-turn-ing car waiting for a stream of outward traffic can keep a dozen or more drivers waiting to proceed straight ahead. The temptation is to pass the right-hand turner on his left which is dangerous. If the left-hand lane were marked for left-turners and for straight traffic noone would be kept waiting because outward traffic is not permitted to turn right. Second, I should like to see a consistent rule on this subject so that the driver knows what to expect at all times, but the one 1 quote is really in need of review. — Yours, etc., C. C. SMITH.
