Whooping cough fear
NZPA London Sales of whooping cough vaccine in Britain have fallen more than 50 per cent since 1973, and the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry has asserted that the country is now suffering the worst epidemic of the disease for 20 years. The association’s news magazine said that the proportion of children aged under five protected by vaccination against whooping cough had dropped from about 80 per cent in 1973 to only 33 per cent last year. Preliminary figures showed that while only 3813 cases of whooping cough were recorded in 1 9 7 6, 65.892 cases occurred last year.
