$5600 for Goldie
Wellington reporter A bid of $5600 for a small G. F. Goldie oil of Tetuhi, a noted Maori chief, was the top price at the national art sale in Melbourne last evening. A huge G.P. Nerli oil, "Courtship,” made $5500. This painting was out of the permanent collection of the Canterbury Society of Arts, given by its president, Mr D. Jennings. Other big prices were paid for works by Frances Hodgkins, John Gully, P. van der Velden, and J. C. Hoyte. Bidding was reasonably buoyant for what was a fairly ordinary catalogue of paintings.
