Pay rise for fish men
Fish process workers will receive an $lB a week pay rise, with aiiother $4 after three months experience. This is the result of a conciliated settlement in Wellington this week. The fish process workers are members of the Food Processors’ Union, and imposed a load-out ban in the first week of May on fish other than for the local markets. The ban was applied after the first round of wage talks broke down.
A spokesman for the union said that the new starting rate would be $ll3, and after three months would rise to $117.50. The top rate in the industry has risen from $106.54 to $127.50.
