Cost of fluoridation
Sir, — For many years nuclear power plant proponents have pushed ahead with construction despite pressure from a group of “cranks” who opposed the projects as being both unnecessary, and dangerous. The recent incidence of malfunctions in nuclear plants would indicate that the “cranks” were right. For an even longer period another breed of “cranks” have opposed the fluoridation of municipal water supplies as being unnecessary and dangerous. The proponents of fluoridation attempt to create the impression that New Zealand is the only country that has not adopted fluoridation, and that it is safe. Much evidence of an increase in diseases, including cancer, in fluoridated areas has now been tabulated. Among the countries where fluoridation has been rejected or banned are France, Italy, Spain, Holland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Austria, Greece, Luxemburg and Yugoslavia. Among the American states banning fluoridation are California and New York. — Yours, etc., JOHN J. FORSTER. Secretary, Canterbury branch, New Zealand Pure Water Association. May 7, 1979.
