Success for Christchurch band

PA Hamilton The cream of New Zealand’s brass bands gathered in Hamilton yesterday for the start of the five-day Air New Zeland national brass band championships. Despite pouring rain the championship, involving 37 bands, went off without a hitch.

But the president of the New Zealand Brass Band Association, Mr J. Rafferty, >f Christchurch, is hoping that the weather will be fine for the big open air event at the week-end.

The championships have attracted one of the largest number of entries, including a band from Australia, involving more than 2000 bandspeople and supporters.

Crosby has won the B flat title and the band’s number two duet has taken the duet titl lin the senior section Skellerup Wooiston has taken the open quartet title.
