Crews nominated

PA Wellington The New Zealand Rowing Council has confirmed the following nominations for crews to compete in the junior world championships in Moscow in August, and a women’s tour of Australia in October. The nominations were made after two week-ends of trials at Wanganui, and confirm the recommendations of the national selectors, Mr Fred Strachan, convener (Christchurch), Mr Peter Baddeley (Hamilton) and Mr Peter Irvine (Wanganui). The junior crews are:— Coxless four.—R. Tong, stroke (Union, Wanganui), I. Reid (West End), S. Henderson (Tauranga), Allan Horan (W'aikato). Coxless pair.—D. WhiteParsons, stroke (Taurangai, B. Holden (Hauraki). Coach: Kevin Bremer (Waikato). The junior crews will start training on April 14, at the Waikato shed.

The following women’s crew* for competition against Australian state crews In October were selected:— Coxed four.—Raewyn Lofthouse, stroke (Te Awamutu), Christine Hamilton (Wellington?, Cheryl Leonard (Hamilton Women’s), Deborah Brown (Hamilton Women’s), Denize Schoch, cox (Wellington). Coxless pair.—Sally Jackson, stroke (Wellington), Pamela Jackson (Wellington). Coach: lan Brougham (Union, Wanganui). Training to start at Wanganui on August 14. Trials to select the colts and light-weight colts trainees from the 54 nominees will be held at Wanganui on May 4. Mr Harry Mahon, of Waikato, has been named as coach of the heavyweight colts. The manager of the junior team to Moscow and the coach for the light-weight colts will ba named shortly.
