Red cars, red faces
»A Dunedit An April Fool’s prank broadcast by Radio 4XO caused consternation among Otago motorists at 9 a.m. yesterday. A bulletin informed listeners that earless days were in force and that all red cars were banned from use for the day. For about an hour telephone lines were jammed at the Ministry of Transport’s district office as traffic officers tried to cope with calls. The Dunedin Central Police Station was also kept busy with telephone calls. Senior Traffic Sergeant R. J. Watchman then asked 4XO to call off the joke and a truthful bulletin was broadcast about 10 a.m.
