Coringa open to Hanna
, A talented 20-year-old Burnham left-handed golfer, Gregg Hanna, had his most significant success on Saturday when he won the Coringa 36-hole open by three strokes from the Canterbury representative, Murray Brown. Hanna’s winning total of 152 was nothing startling, but the course, off the back tees and with no placing, played extremely long and the unpleasant morning conditions did nothing to improve the players* problems. Hanna had two rounds of 76 and was generally very steady. He had a three-over on one hole in the first round and took five on the part-3 seventeenth in the afternoon. But they were rare lapses and his consistency was rewarded. Leading scores:-— G. J. Hanna, 76, 76-152; M. G. Brown, 79, 76-155; N. Mclvor, 79, 79-158; .1. McCormick, 78, 81-159; J. R. A. Parlane, 78, 82-160; N. Griffiths, 82, 79-161. Intermediate. — D. Taiaroa, 88, 83-171; B. Inwood, 90-84-174; D. Orwin, 91-176. Junior.— H. Hunter, 92, 95-187; E. Knuckey, 96-91-187; G. Greig, 98-81-189.
