B.H.P. plans bonus

NZPA Melbourne Australia’s biggest public company, the Broken Hill Proprietary Company, Ltd. i plans to make a one-for-five i bonus issue which will give i shareholders an increase in dividend income this year. Utah Mining Australia, Ltd, also announced a three-for-seven bonus issue. The B.H.P. bonus issue was announced along with the final dividend for 17c a share (8.5 per cent) for the steel and oil and gas group’s 1978-79 year. The shares to be issued in the bonus issue, to shareholders registered on Avril 20, will receive the final dividend to be paid on May 30. This will give the holder of the 100 B.H.P. shares at present an increase in dividend income in 1978-79 of about 14 per cent. If B.H.P. pays an unchanged 32.5 c a share dividend next year it would prodqce a 24 per cent rise in income above the 1977-78 level.
