Fulton, Hadlee top averages

Scoring eight half-centuries during the season, Bill Thomson (Sydenham) had the highest aggregate, 678, in the senior cricket championship which ended on Saturday. But he was only sixth in the averages. Top of the list was Rod Fulton (Old Collegians). Only five batsmen passed 500 for the season, and only one bowler took 50 wickets. He was Dayle Hadlee (Old Boys), and he had almost all of them with the off-spinners to which he turned in a season devoted to trying to rest his injured back. Hadlee was also top of the averages. In his last six bowling performances, Hadlee had 30 wickets for only 158 runs. In the figures below, batsmen with a minimum of five innings and an average exceeding 20, and bowlers with at least 10 wickets and an average below 30 have been included.
