Full-time officer for disabled
Mr J. L. McKie has been appointed as the fulltime executive officer for the New Zealand Paraplegic and Physically Disabled Federation. From April 1, he will have permanent headquarters a* Christchurch in Victoria Mansions. When looking for a suitable office. Mr McKie said that he became sharply aware of the problems facing disabled people who wish to get about on their own in Christchurch. His office must be accessible to disabled persons wanting to see him. As a chartered accountant, Mr McKie has provided secretarial services to the Paraplegic Federation since its establishment in 1968. He travelled as secre-tary-escort with the New Zealand team to the World Paraplegic Games in Israel in 1968 and to Canada in 1976. Mr McKie was the New Zealand representative at the Far East and South Pacific meeting in Hong Kong, and the Stoke Mandeville Paraplegic Federation Conference in 1978. He has been an office bearer in the Youth Hostel Association of New Zealand since 1952 and was awarded a U.N.E.S.C.O.
For services to the vouth hostel movement, he was awarded the Richard Sehirrmann Medal by the German Youth Hoste! Association in 1977.
