Grant given for coastal planning
The Christchurch City Council is one of two city councils and three harbour boards to receive grants between $3OO and $5OO from the Ministry of Transport to help them involve the public in coastal planning. The other recipients are the Wellington, Hawke’s Bay, and Marlborough harbour boards, and the Porirua City Council. Harbour boards and Ideal authorities have been given powers under the Harbours Act to manage coastal waters. The Ministry’s maritime planning officer (Dr P. McCombs) said it was important that the public were involved in any assessment of demand oh coastal areas.
