Jury poll requests ruled out
PA Wellington Crown prosecutors have been ordered to oppose further requests for jury polls. The Solicitor-General (Mr R. C. Savage, Q.C.) said yesterday that the law and its practice in New Zealand did not provide for juries to be polled. Mr Savage's order has surprised an Auckland barrister, Mr P. A., Williams who last week shook the legal world with his successful request for a poll after a si.x-dav drug trial in the Suprenie Court at Wellington. The jury had returned a unanimous guilty verdict, but when polled, two jurors said they had doubts.
