Rangiora move for women
The three clubs controlling the Rangiora Racecourse appear to be among the leaders in smoothing the way for the introduction of women riders and drivers.
The Rangiora Racecourse will be one of the first to provide lounge-changing, shower, and toilet facilities for women in its main administration stand, the stewards’ stand. The work will involve
considerable internal rearrangement of the existing facilities under the stand. Tenders for the work are being called on behalf of the North Canterbury Racing Club, the Rangiora Trotting Club, and the Amberley Racing Club. To make way for the new facilities, the clubs will shift the stewards’ room to the former staff office adjacent ito the secretary’s office. A
new staff office will be added to the back of the stand. The video-tape facilities will also be shifted. Tenders for the work will close on April 4. Work is expected to start after the North Canterbury Racing Club meeting on April 7 to be completed in time for the Amberley Racing Club’s meeting on May 12. The project was a pio-
gressive step by the combined clubs, said a member |of the grounds committee, [Mr Ray Catherwood. Ali though new facilities for 'women had been provided at [some courses, their rooms iwere in some cases remote Ifrotn the other changing facilities for jockeys and, ■drivers and from administration rooms.
