Night at choir spoilt

Sir, — Two things diminished the enjoyment of the Korean Children’s Choir performance in the Town Hall last Friday. First, the amplification of the music. Why must backing bands drown the voices of the performers they are supposed to complement? Second, the presence of pre-schoolers and even a toddler in the audience. This may be the Year of the Child, but this is ridiculous. The children neither enjoyed nor appreciated the music; their noise irritated other patrons. If the parents concerned really thought of their children’s welfare, they should have left them at home, tucked up in bed where they belong at that hour of the night. As they sat on laps, one wonders if tickets were purchased for them. We travelled 40 miles to hear the choir and I object to having a rare outing spoiled by the lack of consideration from irresponsible parents. — Yours, etc.
