Faces were red
Off-duty policemen were recalled and all stations between Timaru and Christchurch were put on full alert after a young woman was seen being manhandled into a car at Tinwald last evening. Members of the public who alerted the police said the woman had been “screaming at the top of her lungs.” Road blocks were set up to catch the “abductor,”
but when the north-bound car was finally stopped on the Selwyn bridge, the police found that the incident had been the result of an argument between the woman and the other two occupants of the car — a man and a woman. “There were red faces all round, especially in the car,” a police spokesman said. No charges were laid.
