Radio interference
Sir. — A piercing whistle upsetting 3YA programmes, as mentioned by Rosie Witty (March 23) comes from a heterodyning frequency of Radio Rhema. Technical adjustments to some radios only can relieve the annoyance, but the unwanted programme still stays close by — more so in the MerivaleSt Albans area. Any extension to Radio Rhema broadcasting hours will be strongly opposed, and one would think with its religious beliefs the company by now would have done something to correct the annoyance. Radio manufacturers during the last 25 years tended to make sets without R.F. or band-pass tuning stages, and under the present law this is permissible, but not suitable for selectivity of powerful nearby stations operating between 1200 to 1600 K.C. Radio Rhema should seek another transmitting frequency. — Yours, etc., K. D. McILRAITH. March 22, 1979.
