Russia's plans?
Sir, —Approval of Chinese aggression against Vietnam and the specious reasons in justification are of a piece with the other views expressed in L. Westney’s letter (March 23). One had thought that the discredited, outmoded, cold-war cliche, “Free World,” to describe Western capitalism had died a natural death, and the idea of this mythical world depending for survival on two states, Rhodesia and South Africa, regimes in utter negation of freedom, is ludicrous. Presumably fascist Chile and the United Kingdom which has inaugurated a fascist regime of military occupation on Irish soil in six of Ulster’s counties are also members of the “Free World.” Little wonder that L. Westney welcomes the Chinese imperialists to this club of oppression. It is incredible that he commends the Chinese example to the Western Powers, and where in Africa would they find the “Russian bear”? Such advice is a recipe ensuring World War HI. —Yours, etc., M. CREEL. March 24, 1979.
