N.Z. case in Canada
PA Ottawa The Canadian Prime Minister (Mr Pierre Trudeau) yesterday promised that his Government would reconsider the possibilities of improving access for New Zealand butter, cheese, and dairy products. But at the same time he told the Deputy Prime Minister (Mr Taiboys) that he did not want to raise false hopes for improved export sales. “He is prepared to ask his Ministers to have another look at the question,” Mr Taiboys said,
after meeting Mr Trudeau and some of his Cabinet yesterday. Canadian officials involved in the multilateral trade negotiations in Geneva said they did not expect that Canada would change its position in spite of Mr Taiboys’ appeal at the highest levels. Mr Taiboys saw several Canadian Ministers and key trade officials yesterday. Today he will meet the Ministers of Trade, Agriculture, and Consumer Services, before leaving Ottawa on his return to New Zealand.
