Chinese visit
PA Wellington A Chinese VicePremier, Mr Geng Biao (Keng Piao), is to visit New Zealand in March, the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr AdamsSchneider, announced yesterday. While he is in the country, he is expected to outline the future for New Zealand in China’s modernisation programme. The Minister said China had embarked on a “vast” programme of modernisation and was now seeking technology from abroad. “When the Minister of Foreign Trade (Chinese) was in New Zealand last
year, he indicated that the Chinese authorities were looking to New Zealand, not only for things like wool, dairy products and forest products, but also for the expertise required to develop China's tourist industry,” Mr AdamsSchneider said. He said he hoped the business community as well as the Government would take full advantage of the Vice-Premier’s one week visit and pursue possibilities presented. Vice-Premier Biao is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party and is an assistant to the Chinese Premier for Foreign Affairs.
