Bunker ‘home’
PA Auckland Five boys and three girls have lived in a World War II gun turret above Auckland’s Tamaki Drive for the last six days. Six of the young people were discovered in their "home” near the Savage Memorial by detectives on Wednesday. The children, most of them aged 15 and 16, had been sleeping on the floor of the bunker or in stolen cars since last Friday. Two of the boys escaped from the Owair-
aka Boys’ home 10 days ago and th* others were missing from their homes. The police who found the eight yesterday said that they were dirty and unkempt Seven of the teen-agers appeared in the Children and Young Persons Court at Auckland yesterday on charges of not being under proper care and control. A youth, aged 18, appeared in the Magistrate’s Court on a charge Of breaching probation. The police said other charges would be laid later.
