Whooping cough vaccination

Sir, — In 1977 Dr R. C. Begg, Deputy Director of Health, Public Services Division, was reported in “The Press” as saying that “the whooping cough vaccination could cause severe reactions in very isolated cases.” It is all very well to chide parents for failing to vaccinate their children, but the public should be informed as to its possible consequences. It should be a conscious decision to be made by each individual parent as to whether they vaccinate their child or run the risk of possible reactions which include “losses of mobility, or sensation, judgment, and in thinking ability.” — Yours, etc., BELINDA MORTLOCK. December 21, 1978.
