Holiday air ferry

Nationwide Air International, Ltd, is making arrangements to carry cars and passengers across Cook Strait during the holidays. A director of the company, Mr J. G. Rutherford, said that the passengers would be carried in a separate aircraft. If Air New Zealand staff struck, his company would put on as many flights as it could to help passengers get from Wellington to Blenheim. Most of the space in the company’s Carvair car ferry is usually taken up by trade clients but Mr Rutherford said he hoped manufacturers would agree to take a “backseat” during the holidays. A second Carvair should get its certificate of airworthiness today or tomorrow, said Mr Rutherford. This aircraft is owned by Nationwise Air Akarana, a company the debenture of which lias been bought from the National Bank by Nationwide Air International.
