St Clair criticised
Wellington Complaints from top professionals may lead to the next New Zealand Open golf championship being transferred from Dunedin s St Ciair course. The New Zealand Golf Association is to request that the Turf Culture Institute inspect the St Clair course and report on its condition. Players have approached both the chairman of the association, Mr J. Slade, and the secretarv Mr D. Sutton, saving they were unhappy with St Clair as the v'enue for the Open next Decernoer. Macaskill. confirmed there was concern at St Clair being the venue. “We’ve had approaches and we’ll be discussing them at our next meeting in late January or February,’’ he said. Mr MacAskill said most plavers preferrod the Bahnacewen . course in Dunedin or the Otatara ’ course in Invercargill, “but vou can never get two golfers to agree, it depends on the tvpe of game they play.”
