The chairman of the Waimairi County Council (Mr D, B. Rich) has retained his seat on the Christchurch Refuse Disposal Committee by his own casting vote, A motion, that the. County Chairman be replaced on the committee by the member representing tlie riding in which the proposed landfill area would be sited, was lost.
•i But in voting on a conse-l Iquent motion that the chairman be retained as a member,! with the council’s works, re-i ,Iserves and traffic committee: (chairman — as at present —. the council was divided ! evenly 5-5. | “I vote for the status quo,” said Mr Rich, and tipped the scales 6-5 in his favour.
