Tomanova ousted
NZPA Sydney Czechoslovakia’s Hana Mandlikiova lived up to her reputation as one of the most promising: juniors in the world by beating! her highly rated fellow countrywoman, Renata Tomanova, in the ' second round of the Toyota i womens tennis classic at White City yesterday. The days play produced several upsets and some top performances from seeded players but Miss Mandlikovas 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 victory stole the limelight. The tournament lost another leading seed when South Africa’s Manse Kruger lost In straight sets to Italy’s Sabina Simmonds, 6-4. 6-0. Other seeded players, Regina Marsikova (Czechoslovakia), Mima Jausovec (Yugoslavia) and Queensland’s Wendy Turnbull were anything but impressive In advancing to the third round.
-Maisikova wa* stretched to three sets by West Germany's Heidi Listerlehner before win ning, 6-3. g-7, 6-3. Jausovec dropped her first >el to Brazil’s Gail Langela before fighting back to take the lasi two sets and win the match, 0-6. 6-4. 8-2. Turnbull was taken to a tie breaker in the first set by Chru O Neill before winning, 7-6. 6-2. The top seed. Virginia Wade had no trouble advancing to th< third round, beating Sydne-. Kaye Hallam, frl, 6-3. In the first round of th< doubles New Zealand’s Jud) Chaloner and Great Britain. Anne Hobbs beat the Americans Beth Norton and Renee Blount 6-8, 6-3, but another New Zea lander, Brenda Perry and he New- South Wales partner, Gai. Gilchrist, were beaten 6-6 62 by Rosie Casals ‘United States and Dianne Fromhoitz (Ne. South Wales).
