Walk will trace steps of settlers
The annual walk over the Bridle Path will take place on Sunday, December 10. The walk will begin from Ferry mead between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. and will end at the Lyttelton Borough Council Chambers. Certificates will be given to persons who complete the walk for the first time and seals will be added to the certificates of those who have completed the walk in previous years.
The walk commemorates the arrival of the first Canterbury settlers in the First Four Ships between December 16 and 27, 1850. The Bridle Path was the only access from Lyttelton to Christchurch until the Evans Pass road te Sumner was opened in 1857.
Transport Board buses will leave Cathedral Square for Ferrymead from Woodwards Gift House corner at 1230 p.m. Buses will leave Lyttelton at 1 p.m. Buses will return from Lyttelton to Ferrymead and the Square from about 3.15 p.m. Cancellations will be broadcast between 9 am. and 11 a.m. on Sunday from 3ZB.
