Spartan Prince after eighteenth win

(Special cones. Wellington Spartan Prince will be attempting the eighteenth win of his career when he contests the Ngaio Handicap, first leg of the double at Hutt Park Raceway tonight. Successful in 17 of his 31 starts to date, Spartan Prince looks set for another victory. He will meet eight of the opponents he beat at the Manawatu meeting on Friday night. The Ngaio Handicap will be started from a stand and the journey of 2400 should suit the five-year-old son of Tuft and Bay Lady. Spartan Prince has raced at Hutt Park twice before. Both times were as a two-year-old and he was successful on each occasion. Ilsa Voss, Framalda and Diogenes will offer most opposition to Spartan Prince. Ilsa Voss confirmed her good fourth on Derby night at Addington with a firstclass effort for second at Manawatu. She had a perfect run in the trail but had a little difficulty in getting clear when about to make her challenge. She was brought out wide on the; track and put in a late run! which was eating into Spar-1 tan Prince’s lead nearing the! line. Framalda ran below expectations when only seventh in the mile. Peter Wolfenden had her well placed behind Spartan Prince, but she did not finish on with her usual dash. She is not classed as a sprinter and tonight’s 2400 metres should suit her better. Doody Townley could train the winners of the T.A.B. double. He has Pirongia in the Air New Zealand Probationary Pace, the second leg. Pirongia was having her first race since the OtakiMasterton meetings at Hutt Park when fifth at Manawatu on Friday. Selections:—
