Clutha scheme
Sir, — Mr Gair (November 29) is surely pushing political credibility to the extreme if he thinks that the election polls in Otago and Clutha are a vote of confidence for National's Clutha scheme. So it is the activists outside the area who are the main objectors. With around $2 billion of taxpayers’ money at stake surely we “outsiders” should be allowed some comment. Is National not trying to curb its spending to reduce overseas borrowing? Please, Mr Gair, drop the pretence, be realistic, and drop the scheme. — Yours, etc.. GORDON SPIERS. December 1, 1978.
