Mother dies in fire

FA Wellington A woman died in a house fire in Porirua yesterday. She was Mrs Jovce Rita Nickel, aged 30. Witnesses say Mrs Nickel ran screaming from the house, her clothes alight, at 12.30 p.m. She collapsed and died on the driveway in front of the house. Mrs Nickel was married with two sons, aged eight and nine. A 19-year-old girl from a neighbouring house. Miss K. Lowry, was the first to reach the woman. She saw the flames and called the fire brigade, and then tushed out and tried to smother the flames on the woman with a blanket. Another neighbour. Mr I Whitt. took a bedspread and; ran to help her. When the ambulance arrived with the fire brigade, soon after, Mrs Nickel was dead. Firemen put out the fire in the house in about 10 minutes.
