Hearing on advt complaint adjourned
PA Wellington | j A Commerce Commission ’ hearing on a com- 1 plaint that the “Bay of Plen- 1 ty Times,” Tauranga, refused to accept a “competitor’s” 1 advertising has been ad- 1 journed. The adjournment was : taken to enable the advertis- i ing committee of the Newspaper Publishers’ Associ- 1 ation to consider the com- > plaint and to determine ’ whether it should make a ’ recommendation to the ; newspaper. i The hearing will resume on December 18. ] In April this year, the i newspaper refused to ' accept advertising from Pro- I
merty Spot, a Tauranga business newly established as a bureau to advertise and promote the sale of property. As part of its reason for refusing the advertising, the newspaper has submitted that Property Spot “can do no more than bring buyer and seller together,” which was a service the “Bay of Plenty Times” had been providing for more than 100 years. The commission has before it a recommendation by the Examiner of Commercial Practices (Mr A. E. Monaghan) that it make an order requiring the “Bay of Plenty Times” to print Property Spot advertisements.
