Army head visiting
Major-General B. M. Poananga the new Chief of the Genera! Staff, will make his first official visit to Christchurch this week-end. He will arrive at Christ-] church Airport this mcnming,
land inspect Burnham Mili- [ tary Camp, before paying I his respects to the Mayor of I Christchurch (Mr H. G. Hay). This afternoon he will fly by helicopter to Waimate, where the 2nd Battalion, Royal N.Z. Infantry Regiment, is holding its annual camp. Men are drawn for this unit from Canterbury, Nelson, Marlborough and the West Coast, and it is based at Burnham. General Poananga will stay in Waimate overnight, before returning to Timaru to play in the South Canter° bury Returned Services Association golf tournament. The proceeds of this tournament will go to the new Army Museum at Waiouru. Several well-known returned servicemen will take part. General Poananga will leave Christchurch for Wellington on Sunday evening.
