Disco given approval
A Hoon Hay disco should be allowed as a commercial use on Sundays during the school holidays, the Christ church City Council’s health and general committee saic yesterday. But the chairman (Sii Robert Macfarlane) said such approval would be e compromise, allowed onh because the applicant hac been running a community service disco at the Suburb; Rugby Football Club. During December ant January' when many volun teer workers were on holiday, Mr J. Grocott could rur a commercial disco frorr 1.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. oi Sundays. Sir Robert said hi would not want to see sue] commercial discos spread or a Sunday,- so the approva would be only on the grount of the community servict done throughout most of tht year. Some councillors votet : against the approval even as a compromise, because i | was against council policy on commercial ventures o"i 'Sundays.
