New Zealand record prices were paid for stud Romney I rams at the final sale of the 1 f resco stud of Mr I. R. Oak- i ley, of Mayfield in Mid- ( Canterbury, yesterday. i The first of the stud rams t put up for sale at the May-’! field showgrounds set a new record of $25,000, but this i < was short-lived for the sec- i end ram sold for $26,000. 1 i Both were bought by Mr l H. Brenssell, of Moa Flat,] Heriot, Central Otago, who: earlier bought the female:* part of Mr Oakley’s stud. The two rams have both bad notable successes in the show ring. The first won the “blue ribbon” ram hogget class at the Royal show in Christchurch last year and was supreme champion at the Royal show in Hastings this year. The other ram was second to the blue ribbon ram hogget winner at the Hastings show this year. The stud rams in the sale sold for a total of $90,150 and an average of $3756. Apart from the two high- 1 priced animals, one went to i V. W. Davidson (Otago) for! $7400, two to B. Brenssell! < (Heriot) for $4200 and i 52200, one to G. H. Craine'' (Feilding) at $4OOO, two to ! A. M. Barwell (Mayfield) at I $3OOO and $2OOO, and one!; was bought by Dalgety and! Company, Gore, as agent, ’ for $2OOO. , I The balance of the stud ; rams realised from $4OO to I 11900. As well as the stud sires, . the sale included ram progeny and for the total offer- < Ing realised $134,525, the i a -rage oer head being $587. The flock rams averaged 8147.30 With prices ranging from SSO to $350. More than 500 peoplt from all parts of New Zealand followed the sale. There was even some buying interest from overseas and twe rams were bought by Dalgety New Zealand, Ltd, foi South America.
